Quest Beginner Guide — Your First Clear

Quest Mode is the friendliest on-ramp to GunZ The Duel — four-player co-op, predictable Dungeon routes, and bosses with readable tells. This guide assumes you completed basic how to play tutorials and never finished a Quest run. Goal: one clean Normal Dungeon clear with consumables to spare.

Before You Queue

Checklist:

ItemWhy
Rifle or SMGRanged cleanup for balcony spawns
Katana or BreakerMelee DPS on skeletons
Eight Medkit minimumSee Quest items
Two Repair KitArmor loss adds up
Four Ammo boxes if ranged mainAvoid dry fire in Room 2

Read Quest overview for mode rules — revives, wipes, difficulty tiers.

Finding a Party

Host Normal Dungeon with open slots or join an existing lobby. Announce you are new — most veterans appreciate ping discipline over silent carry expectations. Avoid Hard hosts until you beat Normal twice.

If solo: enemies hit harder relative to your DPS — bring extra medkits and play conservative kiting in Room 2 bridge.

Role Pick — Keep It Simple

You do not need a meta role day one:

  • Frontliner — hold doorway choke, slash skeletons
  • Ranged — clear archers on ledges
  • Support — revive teammates after waves end
  • Mobility — optional; skip until you learn Butterfly

Do not chase K-Style skips on first run — follow walkthrough room order.

Room-by-Room Beginner Notes

Room 1: Stack at door, kill skeletons before advancing.

Room 2: Do not revive mid-bridge — finish wave first.

Room 3: Focus Dark Priest preview caster if present — actually skip worrying on Normal; kill trash uniformly.

Room 4–5: Save medkits — boss soon.

Room 6 — Giant Slime: Stand on dry tiles; if no one kites puddles, take role yourself and run clockwise. Details: boss guide.

Revive Etiquette

Wait for safe windows. Support revives in corners away from spawn points. If you die twice, hang back and shoot from range — feeding deaths drains party Medkit stacks.

After First Clear

  1. Run Dungeon Normal again — memorize triggers without reading guide
  2. Read Quest items — optimize stacks before Hard
  3. Try Mansion Normal — vertical rooms teach wall climbing
  4. Ten Training Room minutes on dash before pushing Hard

When to Move to Hard

Move up when:

  • Zero wipes on two consecutive Normal clears
  • You know Giant Slime puddle pattern
  • Party carries twelve medkits each willingly
  • You can air dash without losing aim

Hard adds Dark Priest pressure and elite knights — study boss patterns first.

Steam 2026 Tips for New Quest Players

Remaster UI shows clearer objective markers and revive prompts. Use ping on elites. Steam party invite simplifies four-stacks versus legacy IRC era.

Track patches on updates — drop rates and boss HP change occasionally.

Your first clear is a milestone — Quest is where GunZ co-op culture lives. Welcome to the party.

Community Tips and Remaster Notes

Veteran Quest runners on the 2026 Steam client report that ping markers and revive callouts reduce accidental wipes in public lobbies. Hosts who announce difficulty and expected route — Dungeon versus Mansion — see fewer mid-run quits. If you are teaching newcomers, assign one player to loot duty so consumables from our Quest items guide stay stocked before each boss gate.

Movement skill still separates average parties from speedrun groups. Even in PvE, learning Butterfly and wall climbing opens skip routes documented in the Quest walkthrough. PvP players cross-train in Quest because slash timing and ammo discipline transfer directly to K-Style duels. Track balance patches on updates — drop rate tweaks and boss HP adjustments land there first.

Before you queue Hard or Nightmare, run a Normal clear with the same party to confirm roles: frontliner with Katana, ranged with rifle or SMG, support carrying Medkit stacks and Repair Kit, mobility scouting shortcuts. This five-minute briefing prevents the most common pug failure — three DPS loadouts and zero revives.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Normal on Dungeon — avoid Hard until you complete Normal at least twice without wiping.

How many Medkits for first Quest run?

Eight minimum; twelve if solo or playing support for the party.

Do I need Butterfly for my first Quest?

No — basic movement and room discipline beat advanced K-Style on Normal difficulty.
